It was a very cold and muddy day up at St Germain watching the Guernsey Athletics Club Cross-Country Championships. I was slipping about in my trainers and I wasn’t trying to get around the field at speed, it was quite impressive watching the runners doing a brilliant job at staying on their feet. First finisher, Jack Rees was flying the whole way and I was very happy to capture this low, wide angle shot of him as he hit a deep muddy corner.

We met Tattie Thompson for quite a long interview on her stepping down from Plant Heritage after 40 years involved with the organisation. After a lovely chat about her time involved and going through lots of memories we went up to her greenhouse to set up some beautiful portraits with natural light and a deep depth of field.

This was up there with one of the most wholesome jobs I’ve done this year. We had arranged with St Martins Primary School to perhaps set up a picture to run on front page for World Children’s Day. The headteacher Clare Giles was fantastic and offered me the whole school for a photo on the playing field, unfortunately just as we all assembled the heavens opened with hail. The children screamed and we got the ideal picture!
