A boat was the suprise presentation made to keen amateur fisherman Mr Bert Hockey on his retirement from Bellegreve Vinery after 53 years of service.

For hungry moments at sea.  A supply of an instant hot food snack 'for those hungry moments' has been given to the lifeboat crew by Mr J. H. Gates, of Le Riche's.  The gift was received by Captain John Petit, coxswain of the lifeboat, and crew members.

6th February 1980.  
The smallest of the three bells was moved from the church building to the completed belfry at the Roman Catholic Church of Notre Dame.  The bells, which were cast in France, were consecrated in July last year to mark the 150th anniversary of the church.

A seven-million BTU coal-fired boiler was installed at Bellegreve Vinery, providing heat for nearly three acres of glasshouses.  The boiler is fuelled by washed coal singles, which are fed into the boiler by a worm gear, and drop on to the firebed.  The picture shows workmen checking the coal-fired boiler.

6th February 1980.
One hundred years of grime being removed fomr five giant bronze plaques in Castle Cornet.  The plaques, which decorated the monument removed from Delancey Park by the Germans during the war, have been sand blasted and treated with a chemical brightener.

Plans were made to convert the Gaumont Cinema into two smaller cinemas.  Mr Chris Moore, of the Rank Organisation's information office in London, said that the intention is to split the existing cinema into two levels.  The cost of the project would be in the region of £130,000.

Stone rolls in.  Former Rolling Stones guitarist Mick Taylor flew into Guernsey last night with his band, ready for tonight's sold out gig at The Mallard Hotel.  Playing with him are Snowy White, once of Thin Lizzy and Pink Floyd; Zoot Money of the Big Roll Band; Jeff Allen, a drummer with John Martyn and Van Morrison; and Roger Innes.

Organisers of the Albecq crash exercise, simulating a bus packed with partygoers which crashed out of control hitting a car before turning over on its side, went to extraordinary lengths to kake the accident scene as realistic as possible to give members of the Voluntary Ambulance Reserves the on-site, true-to-life training they need.
